Using your best ninja moves to lay your sleeping baby down in their bed…just to have their eyes pop open!

 

As parents, it can be really hard to know what to do, especially when everyone and their mom seem to know how to make a baby sleep. Why is it that you can’t seem to get your baby to sleep? 

Hey tired parent. I get it. I’m here to help.

 

I’m Melody Patton and I’m a sleep consultant who works with parents of young children who are desperate for their child to sleep well consistently.

 

They don’t know what to do next and are at their breaking point. I help them teach their child to sleep better so they can relax in the evening and have more energy to enjoy their family. 

 

My Journey

 

It was 5:30 am, I was feeding my 4-month-old to sleep, again. She had woken up every 2 hours on the dot the entire night. The morning light was starting to trickle in the room and it made me realize that I had not actually slept. 

 

I remember telling my husband that I thought my head would fall off my shoulders. I was so tired. He reassured me that my head wouldn’t in fact fall off, but when you’re sleep-deprived, you don’t think clearly.

 

As a registered nurse, I knew my head wouldn’t actually fall off, but it sure felt like it would. My memory was poor and I was afraid to drive because I felt like my response time was slowed down. I was afraid of what was happening to me. 

 

That morning, at 5:30 am, I had enough. I kicked down our bedroom door where my husband had indeed slept all night and handed my daughter to him. “Take her! I can’t do this anymore!”. 

 

Later that day we were meeting up with our prenatal groups parents and babies for our monthly get together. We were all talking about how exhausted we were and comparing notes on how poorly our babies slept. Then one mom perked up and said that her son was sleeping really well because she did sleep training. 

 

My ears perked up. “Sleep what?” I asked. “Sleep training” She replied. I immediately started peppering her with questions on her method and how she found out about the method, etc. She told me that she would send me resources that she had read once she arrived home. 

 

That evening, I waited for the ‘ping’ on my phone, alerting me that she had sent me a message. Once I heard that ‘ping’, I dove in and read everything that she sent me. I eventually came across the “Sleep Sense” program. The more I read, the more I felt like this was what we needed to do. 

 

As I read the program, I cried. I was so tired and so desperate for help. I hated hearing my daughter cry but I also couldn’t handle it anymore. 

 

As we worked through the program, we were diligent about creating a soothing bedtime routine, making sure we didn’t take too much time and when I fed her, I kept her wide awake. 

 

It took 3 nights.

 

I think I cried more than she did on the first night. But every night after that it got better and better and better. 

 

Doing this program was a game-changer. I wouldn't want to describe it as anything less than that. 

 

So my daughter was sleeping well and word got out that I had done something to make it happen. People kept asking me what I did and what I thought they should do. I had only limited answers and I so badly wanted to help. 

Then the opportunity came to my inbox

 

The email that described how you can turn this into a career. I was intrigued. I applied for more information and well, as they say the rest is history. 

 

I flew to Florida and was trained by Dana Obleman herself (Creator of the Sleep Sense Program!). I spent countless hours reading and listening to educational webinars and participating in group work to make sure that I had the information that was needed to help tired parents who just want their baby to sleep. 

 

The Awesome Part: Solving Problems

 

Now the great thing is that after some time in business, I’ve learned A LOT.

 

I’m a problem solver by nature so doing this kind of investigation and problem-solving starts a fire in my belly.

 

Because I know.

 

I know what it’s like to have a problem and have NO IDEA on how to fix it. I know what it’s like to be so exhausted that I felt like my head was going to fall off. 

 

I love working with parents who are wanting to make a change and who are wanting to gain some sanity back (because parenting can take away your sanity if you’re not careful…) 

 

I enjoy my free evenings and watching my Netflix show that I’ve been waiting for all day. I want to help other parents get that much deserved ‘me time’ back. 

 

I love hearing from moms about all the things they got done during nap time or that they got to drink their coffee HOT (Do you even remember what hot coffee tastes like?) 

 

Parenting is a full time, all the emotions, all the challenges, all of the things type of calling. Having your baby sleep well for naps and throughout the night is, like I said, a game-changer.
